The Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP) UGM, in collaboration with KMTA through the Social Community (Sosmas) and Research Division (KR), successfully held the Sustainable Design Bamboo Workshop 2025 from August 7–21, 2025. The two-week program took place at DTAP UGM and offered an intensive learning experience focusing on bamboo as an eco-friendly, innovative, and sustainable architectural material.

Throughout the workshop, participants were not only introduced to theoretical insights but also engaged in hands-on practice. Guided by Ir. Ashar Saputra, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN.Eng., Wisnu Agung Hardiansyah, S.Ars., M.Arch., and Nur Zahrotunnisaa Zagi, S.T., M.T., students explored bamboo from the stages of design and construction to the realization of a built installation. This collaborative approach provided a comprehensive understanding of bamboo’s technical qualities as well as its cultural and environmental values in supporting sustainable architecture.

The highlight of the workshop was the creation of a Resting Pod installation designed and built by 13 DTAP students, now standing near the volleyball court parking area of DTAP UGM. The installation is not only an architectural experiment but also a tangible symbol of sustainable design, offering a simple yet meaningful public space for the academic community.

Through this program, architecture students are expected to gain deeper inspiration to innovate with local materials, particularly bamboo, as a strategic step toward shaping a greener and more sustainable architectural future.
