The Undergraduate Program in Architecture at Universitas Gadjah Mada commenced the 2025/2026 Odd Semester by holding an inaugural lecture themed “Towards Socio-Climatic Architecture.” The lecture was delivered by the Director of PT SHAU Internasional Indonesia, Daliana Suryawinata, B.Sc., M.Arch., at the Smart Green Learning Center (SGLC) Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering UGM, on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The event was opened by the Head of the Undergraduate Architecture Program, Harry Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., with welcoming remarks followed by the announcement of the winners of the internal competitions. At the start of this semester, the program organized four competitions: Best Studio Work, Design Process Competition, New Representation of Architecture Competition, and Studio Design Competition. The winners were announced by the Secretary of the Undergraduate Architecture Program, Odilia Renaningtyas Manifesty, S.T., MA(UD), Ph.D., who also presented the awards symbolically on stage. These internal competitions have become a regular agenda each semester to foster an innovative and productive learning atmosphere within a healthy competitive environment.
In the main session, Daliana Suryawinata delivered her lecture on Socio-Climatic Architecture by presenting various SHAU projects, ranging from community-scale initiatives such as the Microlibrary to national-scale projects such as the Vice Presidential Palace in the new capital city (IKN). She emphasized the importance of thorough research and careful consideration in the design process, enabling architectural works to respond to diverse climate and social challenges while generating a positive impact on their surroundings. This vision aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
The lecture was followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by the Head of the Program, allowing students from undergraduate, professional, and master’s levels to engage in discussion. The event concluded with the presentation of a memento from the program to Daliana, followed by a group photo session.
