
To commence the Even Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year, the Undergraduate Architecture Program of the Department of Architecture and Planning (DTAP), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held an Opening Lecture on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 08:00 to 11:00 WIB in Rooms K1 & K2 at DTAP UGM. The event featured an Indonesian architect, Rida Sobana, who is currently a director at the renowned Singapore-based architectural firm DP Architects. His works include Senayan City, The Peak Sudirman, Kemang Village, St. Moritz Jakarta, Equity Tower, Menara Syariah in PIK 2, Alun-alun Bandung, Uttara The Icon Yogyakarta, and many more.
The event was lively, attended by participants from various academic levels, including students of Undergraduate, PPAr/Professional Program, and Master’s in Architecture, UGM. The session began with an opening speech by the Head of the Undergraduate Architecture Program, Harry Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., followed by the announcement of the Best Studio Works winners for the Odd Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year. This award was given as a form of appreciation from the program to students who had worked hard and delivered their best performances in Studio courses. Below is the list of winners:

The event continued with a lecture by Mr. Rida Sobana, titled “Becoming a Good Architect.” He shared insights on the role of architects in society and how they can create a positive impact on their surroundings. This aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. The session saw enthusiastic participation during the Q&A segment, with both in-person attendees and online participants (students from Semester 6 who were undergoing internships outside the city) engaging actively.
Before concluding the event, Mr. Rida Sobana also donated several architecture books to the DTAP UGM Library, which students can access for reference. Thank you, Mr. Rida Sobana, for the knowledge and books shared. May they be beneficial for UGM Architecture students.
